Xeromphalina species form dense clusters on decaying wood, and their tiny caps look like little fairy umbrellas. This is one of the most common species of mushrooms in the forest, and they make themselves very hard to miss. There’s a good chance you’ve encountered Xeromphalina mushrooms in the woods, no matter where you are in North America. These mushrooms can turn old tree stumps into vast and beautiful displays of golden trumpets!
